My 2024… January

I have reviewed my photos taken over the course of 2024 to pick out my favourites.

In order to do so logically - and to link in with how I have organised my files - I have taken it month by month, picking my favourite 5 images from each month. Some months were harder than others to narrow it down; some months were hard to choose 5, as there were only 5 ones I really liked! Once I worked my way through each month, I was then be able to choose the top 5 for the entire year, titled ‘My 2024’

First up is January. The images are ordered from least favourite to most favourite. The top 3 images (bronze, silver, gold) go into the ‘My 2024’ final.

'Buzzard Eating Lunch’

January, 2024.

FIFTH PLACE. I particularly like this image, more for its content than the actual qualities of the photograph. On a country walk, we spotted a buzzard through the trees, surrounded by magpies, tucking into a frog (you can just about see one of its feet under the birds talon. It is not often I have seen a buzzard perched, and it is less often I have seen a buzzard feasting, with tongue and food between beak!

'Picnic in Bradgate’

January, 2024.

FOURTH PLACE. The dog sat very nicely for me for this image. I like the field of view, with Old John’s Tower and woodland in the background.

'Eyes in Focus’

January, 2024.

BRONZE. This image was amongst the many I took using my new 85mm portrait lens at the beginning of the month, showcasing the heterochromia of the dog.

'Interrupting Praying Mantis’ Prayers’

January, 2024.

SILVER. I took this image at Shepshed Camera Club’s ‘Macro Night’, where a variety of bugs were brought in to capture. I enjoy the unusual colours and detail.

'Ready for Adventure’

January, 2024.

GOLD. My favourite photograph of the month (and one with a good running for best picture of the year!) of dog at Bradgate Park. I love the colours and the pose. The dog is almost saying ‘come on, lots to explore!’
