BSB at Oulton Park
Birthday trip to Oulton Park in Cheshire for Sunday’s events of round 2 of the 2024 British Superbike Championship. A new track for both myself and Luke, Oulton Park offered a range of views, both close quarters of speeding corners and overlapping views of different track sections. The access was fantastic, especially when you’re walking past the pits and riders are standing right there, chatting away. I took my Canon 1D X with my 400mm f/5.6 lens and 50mm f/1.4 lens.
The aim of the day was to capture close-up action of bikes (using the 400mm), alongside overall views showing both the crowd and track (using the 50mm). I tried a variety of shutter speeds and generally kept my aperture small, to capture detail from front to back. I found the faster shutter speeds more useful for the close-up bikes, whilst slower ones I paired with overall shots, to show a frozen crowd contrasting with speeding bikes. I have been working on panning technique over the past 6 months, and was pleased with the quality of the results on my photos review.
